Rockdale Medical Center, Conyers Georgia
Located in Conyers, Georgia, Rockdale Medical Center is a 138-bed licensed hospital serving Conyers and surrounding communities. Located about 25 miles east of Atlanta, Rockdale Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission as well as The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Founded in 1956, by Dr. Joe Brown, the hospital’s history is one of community service. It was 23 years later that a new 100 bed facility, known as Rockdale Hospital opened. From that point in time, because of advancements in medical technology and the growing community, Rockdale Hospital has continued to change shape. In the mid- to late 80’s there were three more expansion projects – the Emergency Department, the Day Surgery Center, Women’s Resource and the Birth Place.

In 2001, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was added to The Birth Place to provide advanced care for premature infants without having to be transferred to other facilities in the area.

Then, in the fall of 2000, to keep up with a vibrant and growing community, construction started to renovate and expand outpatient diagnostic services. Upon completion in May 2001, the Outpatient Diagnostic Center became home to all imaging services, speech therapy and cardiology services. The new center also features Rockdale Hospital’s first permanent MRI, one of only two in the metro Atlanta region of its strength and capabilities.

In 2003, Rockdale completed an expansion and renovation of their Emergency Department that includes a 12-room Minor Care Center and a 20-room Acute Care Center to handle all major emergencies and trauma with dedicated rooms for Cardiology, Orthopedic and Pediatric care. In November 2003, Rockdale Hospital changed its name to Rockdale Medical Center to reflect the changing role of the facility from a community hospital to a regional medical center.

The City of Conyers is home to the Georgia International Horse Park. The Park plays host to various events throughout the year including numerous equestrian events, concerts, fairs and festivals. The Park has the first-ever Olympic mountain biking course in the world. With 1,032 feet of elevation change, this unique course offers over eight miles of exhilarating riding. The Park is also home to the Cherokee Run Golf Club. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the 7000 yard, par 72 golf course is open to the public.

The beautiful Olde Town section of the City of Conyers is an historic district with a number of specialty stores, charming restaurants and antiques shops. Conyers is also home to the lovely, serene Monastery of the Holy Spirit. Located on an historic 2,000-acre plantation, the Monastery was started in 1944 by a group of Cistercian monks. For shoppers, The Mall at Stonecrest awaits. This brand-new mall houses hundreds of stores, including specialty and department stores, bookstores, electronics, restaurants and more.
